In the chaos Hugo Swire scores spectacular own goal!

Regular readers will recall that Zorro recently reported on the extraordinary letter that East Devon’s incumbent Conservative MP Hugo Swire wrote and which was published in the Express & Echo newspaper on 26 February. In case you don’t have a copy of this letter to hand, view it here - http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk/letter-Hugo-Swire-Beware-voting-chaos-politics/story-26086041-detail/story.html.
Conservative Hugo Swire. Voting for him will save the World & East Devon (apparently).
n this letter, which ran under the heading “Beware of voting for chaos politics” Hugo hit out at, or perhaps rather sought to ridicule, anyone or any Party that had the audacity to think about challenging him on 7 May. So, in addition to having a swipe at his Coalition partners the Liberal Democrats (don’t forget this in the polling booth), the Conservatives’ bête noire the Labour Party (who?), but also for good measure the Greens, UKIP and somewhat bizarrely for a letter published in East Devon, the SNP!

Finally, and for good measure, Hugo hits out at “occasional independent candidates that pop up from time to time and think they can change the world”. Errr... isn’t changing the world what politics is all about? Or was Hugo trying to persuade readers that independents were really just away with the fairies, and not sensible or responsible politicians like he is?

Hugo then decided to make his kicking of independent candidates a bit more local and a bit more personal but without naming names. He said “My own independent candidate (Claire Wright http://www.claire-wright.org/) is full of sound and fury..” In concluding Hugo says “Now more than ever Britain needs strong and competent leadership, not chaos and instability.... Any other vote for any other Party (other than the Conservatives) will bring chaos...”
Claire Wright Independent candidate. Voting for her will bring chaos (apparently).
So, there you have it, only Hugo Swire and all the other Conservative candidates, presumably in both the general election and the District Council elections, will bring save us all from chaos!

How arrogant can one politician portray themselves? How out of touch with voters can one incumbent MP be? And most certainly Hugo has not looked at what chaos and instability his fellow Conservative majority group on East Devon District Council have brought in the past four years!

Presumably Hugo, or the fresh faced intern who one assumes must been masterminding Hugo’s election campaign (if you can call it that), didn’t weigh up the political risk of sending this arrogant letter? Because if they did, they got it so wrong!

Yesterday’s editions of the Express & Echo and the Exmouth Journal carry many letters. both supporting the Independent candidate, Claire Wright, that Hugo sought to dismiss in his letter and hitting back at him. Thanks to East Devon Watch http://eastdevonwatch.org/ for alerting Zorro to these letters which can all be found at -
http://eastdevonwatch.org/2015/03/05/not-hugo-swires-day-but-it-is-claire-wrights/.

So, a spectacular own goal by Hugo and the match is looking more and more as if Claire Wright will steal it from him! It is all for Hugo to lose and the electors job on 7 May is to show him how to!

It’s time for change! It’s time for challenge!

Zorro takes great pleasure in reproducing all the latest letters here –
